The history of Åstorp-the four population centres
HyllingeThe rise and growth of Hyllinge is deeply connected with the earlier mining of coal in the area. There was also an abundance of red clay, and one hundred years ago around 500 people worked in the mining and brick-works industry. Around 30 years ago the village was changed into its present appearance with the building of all the bungalows and detached houses. At present Hyllinge is being developed into one of the biggest commercial centers in Scania.Kvidinge
It´s documented that people have lived here for more than 600 years. The place has over the centuries been a centre for the training of military units with Tomarps Kungsgård as a basis. Modern Kvidinge is connected with the arrival of the railway. Kvidinge has an important production of ceramics.
Nyvång
Around one hundred years ago coal mining started in the village, and the mine became the biggest in the country. Just like in England the whole community was centered around the mining. A lot of the buildings have also been inspired by English architecture, but also by German and of course skånsk (Scanian) architecture. The mine was closed in 1966.
Åstorp
The chief “town" in the municipality. The place was earlier a rural village, but the great development came about with the establishment of the railway between Helsingborg and Hässleholm in 1875. Modern Åstorp grew up around the station. Åstorp expanded a lot some 20 and 30 years ago, when many families moved out from bigger towns, to more peaceful surroundings.
